Elizabeth Waddington: THREAD SKETCHING

Experiment using free-motion machine sewing or hand stitching to create images on fabric.  Rather than precise quilting, this technique captures the essential shapes and lines of the subject – light, quick, and bare bones. Add color to your design on unbleached muslin using your choice of watercolor pencils, watercolors, water-soluble oil pastels, or fabric crayons. We will have sewing machines threaded with dark or light neutral thread, irons for heat setting / drying, prepared fabric, and batting. This is a project you can embellish with buttons and other small objects sewn on.  Rubber stamps (birds, leaves, whimsical flowers) can be used as stitching guides. All materials are furnished, but feel free to bring your own stamps, watercolors or floss.

Sewing expertise is NOT necessary!
